Rodón was still throwing very well at the time of his exit, but he was at 88 pitches on a hot night in Cincinnati. Unfortunately for Rodón, the Yankees blew a 3-0 lead in the seventh, denying him what could have been his 10th win. He’s tied with Max Fried and Tarik Skubal for the major league lead in that category. Rodón will likely make his next start Sunday against the A’s, unless the Yankees want to use Marcus Stroman then and hold Rodón back to face the Jays on Monday.
  • NYY Relief Pitcher #38
There was no ninth-inning save chance for the Yankees tonight after Jonathan Loáisiga blew a three-run lead in the seventh, but the team was clearly prepared to go with Luke Weaver in the eighth and Williams in the ninth. They followed through with that plan even with the score tied. Weaver also pitched a scoreless inning tonight after taking a loss Friday in his first appearance back from the injured list.
  • NYY 1st Baseman #48
Goldschmidt had sat against four of the previous seven righties the Yankees had faced, so it was a little surprising to see him get the nod against flamethrower Chase Burns tonight. It didn’t wind up working out, though we don’t know that Giancarlo Stanton would have fared any better had he been in there. Goldschmidt is now batting .244/.287/.330 against righties, compared to .408/.494/.711 against lefties.
  • NYY Center Fielder #13
Chisholm was tossed between the ninth inning of a tie ballgame shortly after striking out in his final at-bat of the night. He finished 2-for-4 with a run scored. A 2-0 pitch that looked below the strike zone, but was called a strike anyway, seemed to be what set him off initially and ultimately led to his ejection.
  • NYY Catcher #22
Rice has moved into a more versatile multi-position role since Giancarlo Stanton — who is on the bench to open Tuesday’s game — returned from the injured list earlier this month. The 26-year-old has spent time at DH, first base and catcher of late. He’ll continue to rotate between several spots while providing his usual blend of home runs and strikeouts.
  • ARI 3rd Baseman #28
Passan gave Suárez a 50 percent chance to be traded, and that was before teammate Corbin Carroll was diagnosed with a fractured wrist. Now that Arizona is missing Carroll, Corbin Burnes, Justin Martinez, and A.J. Puk, it could be hard for them to separate themselves in the playoff race. Considering Suárez is a free agent after this season, and the Diamondbacks also have Jordan Lawlar in the minor leagues, trading the veteran makes sense. Passan lists the Tigers, Cubs, Yankees, Royals, and Mariners as possible destinations.
  • NYY Right Fielder #99
Judge supplied New York’s lone run of the contest when he took Reds starter Nick Lodolo deep to left field with a colossal 398-foot solo shot in the opening frame. His 28th big fly puts him back within shouting distance of Mariners backstop Cal Raleigh, who sits atop the big-league home run leaderboard with 31 round-trippers entering Monday night.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #62
Winans gave up five hits, including a solo home run to Gavin Lux. He was bailed out by reliever Ian Hamilton, who came on to escape a bases-loaded jam in the fifth inning, preventing any additional damage after allowing a run-scoring single to Elly De La Cruz. He struck out one, didn’t hand out a free pass and hit two batters. He’s likely headed back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with Marcus Stroman (knee) set to rejoin New York’s rotation mix in the coming days after his final rehab outing.
  • NYY 1st Baseman #48
Goldschmidt figures to get plenty of chances this week with the Yankees set to face at least two left-handers, including Cincinnati southpaw Nick Lodolo on Monday night. The 37-year-old sat both games over the weekend against the Orioles after making four straight starts. It’ll be Ben Rice on the bench with Giancarlo Stanton occupying the DH spot.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #62
Making his Yankees debut, Winans will start against the Reds tonight and then probably return to Triple-A. The 29-year-old had a 7.20 ERA in eight big-league starts for the Braves between 2023 and ’24. He was 7-0 with a 0.90 ERA for the RailRiders.
